What Nodus Is Not

Clarity about what we won't do is just as important as what we will.

Most companies make promises and quietly compromise them later. We're designing Nodus so these constraints are technically enforced—not just marketing claims.

Not a Cloud Dashboard

We don't centralize your data on our servers to sell you analytics. Your files stay on your device. If you want cloud sync, you choose when and what to sync—but it's never required.

Why this matters: Cloud dashboards create a single point of failure. Account locked? Data gone. Service shuts down? Migration nightmare. Local-first means you always have the original.

Not an AI Black Box

Every automation rule is inspectable and editable by you. We don't hide complexity behind "AI magic." If you set up a rule to organize files, you can see exactly what it does and modify it.

Why this matters: Black box automation sounds convenient until it does something you don't understand. Transparency means you stay in control. No surprises.

Not a Data Broker

We don't aggregate usage patterns. We don't sell insights. We don't build shadow profiles. Your behavior—what you organize, what you search, what you store—is yours alone.

Why this matters: Most "free" tools monetize by analyzing your data. We charge money upfront so we don't need to sell you out. Simple business model, aligned incentives.

Not a Growth-Hacking Product

No dark patterns. No trick dialogs. No confusing unsubscribe flows. No "are you really sure?" manipulation. Clear choices, honestly presented. If you want to leave, we make it easy.

Why this matters: Growth hacks optimize for vendor revenue, not user trust. We'd rather have fewer users who genuinely benefit than millions who feel trapped.

Who Nodus Is For

We're not trying to please everyone. Here's who we serve well.

A Good Fit If You:

  • Value control over your data and tools
  • Want to understand what software does before it acts
  • Prefer local-first tools that work offline
  • Are skeptical of "free" tools with hidden costs
  • Need preview-before-action workflows for bulk operations
  • Appreciate engineering certainty over marketing hype

Not for You If You:

  • ×Want maximum convenience with zero control
  • ×Prefer cloud-first tools that "just handle everything"
  • ×Don't want to think about what your tools are doing
  • ×Are comfortable trusting closed-source black boxes
  • ×Need automation that executes instantly without preview
  • ×Expect all software to be free (with ads or data collection)

Technically Enforced, Not Just Promised

These aren't aspirational values we hope to maintain. They're architectural constraints:

  • Local-first architecture makes forced cloud physically impossible
  • Zero-knowledge encryption makes data brokerage technically impossible
  • Preview-first design makes accidental bulk destruction impossible
  • Standard file formats make vendor lock-in impossible

We can't compromise these principles later when "growth requires it" because the software is designed to prevent it.
